2018 Audi Q5: Luxury Compact SUV Reveals Its Second Generation

The Audi Q5 was first introduced as a 2009 model. Since then, it has been very successful as Audi’s compact SUV. The Q5 has sold over 300,000 units since its introduction. As Audi’s best-selling model in the US, it has contributed in a major way to the profits of parent company Volkswagen. The 2018 Q5 Is All-New 

The 2018 Audi Q5 is a new vehicle on a new platform. It has been styled with Audi’s new design language, featuring its new hexagonal grille design, which Audi calls the Singleframe. The horizontal lines in the grille emphasize the Q5’s width. Xenon headlights and a hands-free power tailgate are standard equipment.

Inside, the 2018 Q5 features a multi-function steering wheel with shift paddles. Eight-way power front seats, three-zone automatic climate control, ambient LED lighting, and split folding plus reclining 40/20/40 rear seatbacks are also standard.

New Q5 Power

The 2018 Q5 comes with a single engine option. It is a new 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 252 horsepower. It is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Q5 will now do zero to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds, 1.1 seconds faster than the previous model. 

The 2018 Audi Q5 also has a new quattro all-wheel drive system with ultra technology. This system electronically decouples the rear axle, so that you only get all-wheel drive function when you actually need it. Under normal, everyday conditions, it acts like a front-wheel drive car. The benefit of this system is in fuel economy, which is much better than a full-time all-wheel drive system could deliver.

Driver Assistance Technologies Come Both Standard And Optional

The list of standard driver assistance features on the 2018 Audi Q5 includes:

• Audi pre sense, which can intervene to help prepare the vehicle for impact by closing the side windows and sunroof, and pretensioning the front seat belts.
• Audi pre sense city, which can initiate full braking when a potential collision is detected.

Other driver assistance systems are available either on higher trim levels, or as options for those higher trims:

• Audi side assist provides blind spot monitoring via LED indicators on the exterior mirrors.
• Audi pre sense rear helps monitor the traffic following the vehicle and takes similar actions to Audi pre sense. 
• Vehicle exit assist can help prevent incidents when vehicles or cyclists are approaching from behind as the vehicle doors are opened.
• Rear cross traffic assist alerts the driver of approaching vehicles when reversing out of a perpendicular parking space.
• Adaptive cruise control with stop & go and traffic jam assist helps maintain set distance from the vehicle in front, including braking and accelerating.
• Traffic jam assist combines acceleration, braking and steering guidance between 0-40 mph.
• Traffic sign recognition can detect speed limits, no passing zones, and school and construction zones, and display the information.
• Audi active lane assist observes lane markings and can provide gentle steering wheel warning vibrations if you veer out of your lane.
• Turn assist can detect the approach of oncoming traffic, when making a left-hand turn at a low-speed intersection.
