The 2018 Lexus LC 500 Coupe is the sixth coupe to be a member of the Lexus lineup since the luxury brand was born in 1989. It is a full-size luxury performance coupe, built on the same platform as the LS flagship. In terms of size, it slots right between the BMW 650i Coupe and the Mercedes-Benz S550 Coupe.

More important, the Lexus LC 500 is the first Lexus Coupe to be released under the leadership of Toyota President Akio Toyoda. He has decreed that there shall be “no more boring cars” made by either Lexus or Toyota. The LC 500 is definitely not boring, in any way, shape, or form.

Futuristic Show Car Styling

The 2018 Lexus LC 500 Coupe takes its role as the style leader of the Lexus brand quite seriously. It started out as a concept car, and has kept all of its daring styling features during its transition into a production car. The body construction uses both steel and aluminum, attached with adhesives, rivets, and carbon-reinforced plastic. The trunk lid is made of carbon fiber to save weight.

High Performance Comes from Either A V8 Or A Hybrid System

The 2018 Lexus LC 500 is available in two versions: the LC 500, and the LC 500h. The LC 500 is powered by an upgraded version of the 5.0L V8 that is used in the high-performance “F” models of the Lexus RC and GS. In the LC 500, it puts out 471 horsepower, driving the rear wheels through a ten-speed automatic transmission controlled by magnesium shift paddles.

The LC 500h hybrid is based on a gasoline-powered Atkinson-cycle 3.5L V6 with a power output of 295 horsepower. The V6 combustion engine is paired with an electric motor, for a total system output of 354 horsepower.

The LC 500h adds a unique four-speed automatic transmission to its CVT transmission, for higher power output across the entire speed range. The LC 500h is the first Lexus hybrid that can spin its rear wheels! A new compact 40kWh lithium-ion battery allows the LC 500h to run on electric power only up to a speed of 87 mph.

Full Of Comfort And Technology Inside

The LC 500’s seats look and feel good, with two-part construction where the main part of the seatback drapes the over the shoulder area and then wraps around the seat back. Bolsters in the shoulder area hold the driver securely during cornering.

Available interior color schemes include Bespoke White, Toasted Caramel, Rioja Red and Black finishes. The leather-wrapped gearshift lever is hand stitched, and the Alcantara door panel trim is hand-draped.

The new Lexus multimedia package uses software that allows for future updates. The center console features the latest-generation remote touch interface touchpad control. A new 12-speaker Pioneer surround sound system with 8-channel Class-D amplifier comes as standard equipment. An optional Mark Levinson reference-quality 13-speaker system is available.

The Highest Level Of Advanced Safety Systems

Both versions of the 2018 Lexus LC 500 Coupe are equipped as standard with Lexus Safety System+, a suite of active safety features that help the driver to either avoid an accident, or help lessen the consequences of one. The system uses both a camera and millimeter-wave radar to monitor the road ahead for potential hazards and collision risks. The LC 500 does this with a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, which detects vehicles and pedestrians under certain conditions; all-speed dynamic radar cruise control; lane departure alert with steering assist and vehicle sway warning; and an intelligent high beam system.
