Mazda CX-5 Engine Upgrades For 2018

Mazda CX-5's SKYACTIV-G 2.5L engine has received updates to improve real-world fuel consumption. Its most outstanding new feature is its new cylinder-deactivation technology. This lets it shut down the two outside cylinders at cruising speeds to maximize efficiency. Cylinder deactivation is more effective at low speeds, improving fuel economy by approximately 20% when driving at a constant 25 mph, and by approximately 5% at a constant 50 mph. Mazda is the only automaker to offer a four-cylinder engine with cylinder deactivation in North America.

The new SKYACTIV-G 2.5L engine is paired exclusively with Mazda’s 6-speed automatic transmission, which has both manual-shift mode and sport mode.

2018 Mazda CX-5 Sport

The entry-level CX-5 Sport features cloth upholstery, standard LED headlights, 17” alloy wheels, an electronic parking brake, MAZDA CONNECT infotainment with a 7” screen, plus Bluetooth audio streaming and phone pairing as standard. In its newly available Sport i-ACTIVSENSE Package, the CX-5 Sport gets Mazda radar cruise control, smart brake support, rain-sensing windshield wipers, high beam control, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, and automatic on/off headlights.

2018 Mazda CX-5 Touring

The Mazda CX-5 Touring upgrades to leatherette-upholstered seats and also adds Mazda advanced keyless entry. Additional features in CX-5 Touring include dual-zone automatic climate control, rear air conditioning vents, heated front seats, 6-way power adjustable driver’s seat, and two rear USB ports for charging smartphones or tablets.

2018 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring

Mazda’s 2018 CX-5 Grand Touring is the top of the line. It comes standard with leather-trimmed seats, adaptive front-lighting system, LED fog lights and tail lights, and SiriusXM satellite radio with trial subscription. The available Grand Touring Premium Package includes windshield-projected active driving display head-up unit with traffic sign recognition, heated second-row outboard seats, heated steering wheel, and windshield wiper de-icer.
