2018 Subaru WRX & WRX STI: A Faster Way To Get Off The Beaten Path

Subaru has been a very successful brand in the US market for many years. Its philosophy of producing practical cars and SUVs with loads of utility and all-wheel drive has resonated with the car-buying public, resulting in steadily increasing sales.

But what if you want a bit more performance in your Subaru? More power, more handing, and more attitude might be just what you’re looking for. If so, Subaru offers two performance models that give you much, much more of what a Subaru is known for.

The 2018 Subaru WRX and WRX STI are the latest versions of the highest performing Subarus. They are the result of lessons learned from Subaru’s decades of success in the World Rallying Championship, where the fastest, most precise performance wins.

Changes For 2018

The 2018 WRX and WRX STI feature all-new, more aggressive front end styling, with a larger lower grille opening. Thicker door glass, revised door sealing and improved sound insulation combine to reduce the interior noise level. A new, larger standard 5.9” high-definition touchscreen display provides improved visibility of vehicle functions. Also new is a new sport design instrument cluster with color LCD display, plus dual rear seat armrest cupholders.

The WRX model lineup includes WRX, WRX Premium, WRX Limited, WRX STI, and WRX STI Limited.

More Performance Than The Average Car

The WRX and WRX STI are both four-door sedans. They are powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged engines that drives all four wheels. The WRX has 268 horsepower and offers the choice of a six-speed manual or an optional performance automatic transmission with manual mode. This is 116 hp more than the comparably-sized Subaru Impreza’s 152 horsepower, a major boost in power.

If that’s not enough, the WRX STI offers 305 horsepower and a six-speed manual only, plus upgraded brakes, active torque vectoring, and larger 19” wheels. This means even faster acceleration, better handling, and quicker stopping. The WRX STI offers all the practicality of an all-wheel drive sedan with the performance of a sports car.

High-Tech Driver Assistance Features Available

The WRX Limited model with automatic transmission offers Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology as an option. The 2018 version of EyeSight now features Auto Vehicle Hold, and a new EyeSight Assist Monitor, which uses LED indicators to display EyeSight status and alerts on the windshield. This allows the driver to see alerts without looking away from the road. The AVH feature holds the vehicle on all road grades, not just inclines. The EyeSight suite of safety technologies includes navigation.
